Ruth tells me lots of people cashed in their vouchers this weekend at the St. Lawrence famers’ market. That’s great news.
Since she started selling Monforte cheese, Ruth has been at the St. Lawrence Farmers’ Market – north side, and Rachel Bauman, one of ourcheesemakers, is at the Stratford Farmers’ Market. For full details on how to redeem your vouchers please see Vouchers: The Most Frequently Asked Question.
We hope to be at some 21 other markets when they start up in May, but we won’t have final word on that until sometime in February. We need to apply and hear back about acceptance.
We’re doing our best to be at markets convenient for our CSA subscribers. We figure we’ll have Toronto well covered. But we have to admit Kitchener/Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph and London are a little more challenging.
Here’s the problem: either the market stalls are too expensive, or there isn’t enough business there (we have to sell at least $1,000 in cheese on market day or the cost of being their outweighs the income), or we have a loyal retail partner at that location. We can’t make the numbers work for redeeming vouchers through a store.
So this is what we’ve come up with: a rotating CSA drop-off.
The drop-off would work on a monthly basis. We’d be in the parking lot of a convenient and friendly location in one of these cities, once a month, on a regular schedule. For example: "MyFavouriteSpecialtyFoodStore" in K/W every third Sunday.
Do you think that might work? Please send me an email about which locations you think are best for you west of Toronto. maureen@monfortedairy.com
